Deadliest Catch Was No Match For A Stroke 0

Normally I would made some snide remark about how annoying it is that celebrity deaths trump normal people’s deaths 10 out of 10 times.

But I’m actually really upset about the death of Deadliest Catch Captain Phil Harris.

Seriously, I’m not crabbing about… (that pun didn’t even make sense… I’m that upset).

You’re probably thinking I’m off my rocker.

Aren’t I the same person who dismissed the death of Brittney Murphy and that Avenged Sevenfold drummer? Yep!

And aren’t I always going on about how weird it is that people have all this sympathy for dead celebs and yet their sympathy for dead normal people like the Haiti earthquake victims rarely lasts more than 24hrs? Yep that was also me!

So she’s blogging about this guy to get visitors to her site right? Well it would be a nice change… but no.

I am honestly, 100 per cent, no gimmicks upset about Captain Harris’ death.

I loved him on Deadliest Catch. I used to watch that show just to see how many crab the Cornelia Marie caught… it was always more than all the other boats.

And he was always so big and rude and sweared like a sailor- but he got the job done every time.

The Discovery Channel issued this statement: “We (Discovery) will miss his straightforward honesty, wicked sense of humor and enormous heart. We share our tremendous sadness over this loss with the millions of viewers who followed Phil’s every move.”

And they’re right. Most people watched that show for Phil. So now what?

I’ve just realised that I’ve gone 300 words into this and I haven’t even mentioned how Phil died. How rude of me! Phil died of complications from a stroke he suffered on January 29. Sad.

I can’t help wondering how the “Deadliest Catch” will go on now. Who’s going to take over the Cornelia Marie? Harris’ sons.

Don’t know. But what scares me more is why do I care? Why am I all teary for Capt Harris when I normally never express exaggerated emotions over dead celebs.

Don’t crack it at me, but I think it’s because Capt Harris wasn’t really a celeb but a guy just doing a job that was so interesting everyone wanted to watch him do it.

I also think it has something to do with the fact that I love crab. And the fact that he died not by tempting death (i. drugs) but from an illness that can take out anyone…

That must be it!… I felt the same way when Patrick Swayze went.

I was sad but I won’t miss him. I’m not insane enough to miss people I’ve never met… yet.
