May 18, 2004bed opera
i dreamt i was at the opera. there was a tiny orchestra - about seven people - who were also characters in the opera. (one of them was Jennifer Saunders wearing a false moustache.) the action took place on a giant bed, which was the stage. at one point the audience was asked to come up and stand on the bed. i stood there on the covers with my back to the wall. the opera was a farce about love and sex. i thought i would fall off the bed. also, later, there was a giant ornate 16th-century telescope with jelly instead of glass for the lens. so unless you held the eyepiece perfectly still the image would shake and blur and you couldn't see anything. posted by jane at May 18, 2004 12:24 PM | TrackBackComments
oooooh. Jelly-telescope-opera-dreams-featuring-Jennifer Saunders-wearing-a-false-moustache. Jane, Absolutely off topic but seeing as how I have no clue who Jennifer Saunders is and am pretty curious about the "because" of the "why" I am about to ask, now seemed like as good a time as any to bring it up. Why is it that when you smile you do not show your teeth? (Not that there is anything wrong with a person smiling without showing their teeth or anything. It's just that in the rare picture where you do smile a full-on smile, it's, well, an a lot nicer that the ones where your teeth are tucked behind your lips.) [Of course, one could flip the question right back at me and ask, "Why ask why?" Hmm...Yeah, I see your point. Dunno really. I didn't ask in order to somehow insult Jane's smile, mind you. It was just something I noticed and was curious about. But yeah, you're right, sometimes it's best just to keep one's mouth shut.] {But that takes us right back to my first question, now don't it?} Posted by: Curious at May 19, 2004 12:23 PMsounds like a Beck show to me Posted by: katkat at May 19, 2004 02:10 PMjane, so you're in a rut (alluding to recent weblog posts). help those less fortunate then! go to Africa. think if all "talented" Westerners could be mobilized in selflessness. isn't this what the world needs most right now? more importantly, could this be the right medicine for your 'ennui'? just a thought. ![]() silly, fun, kinda interesting cinematic effects; paced like a videogame. The Rock is a decent comic actor as well as credible action hero. cool fighting scenes. ![]() in spite of some good performances, i couldn't get over the condescending tone. it's a classic case of straight guy pretending to be gay, getting the girl and a better job, and safely being able to declare that he's straight - and escaping thr real problems of homophobia. left me feeling a little icky. ![]() lulu gave me this book. it's magical. set in a fantasy industrial age new york city, suffused with mythology. ![]() a great game. scary. i can't play it unless jesse's home. even then it's hard. i make him play it so i can cower behind the blanket and tell him to watch out for the bad guys. yeah, i'm that much of a wimp.
