lame

went to a lame party friday night and got my bag stolen.

the money's not a big deal but i JUST GOT MY NEW DRIVER'S LICENSE. and i'm supposed to fly to Austin tomorrow morning.

AND my cell phone... with all those numbers ... gone. i feel handicapped without the mobile device.

so, hey, email me your phone number so i can get in touch with you again.

but at least the sun is still shining and love is in the air. so it's not as bad as it could be.

oh man, that sucks. sorry to hear your bag got stolen...jane, re. the cell phone digits...if you're a sprint customer you can go to a sprint store and i believe they can print out your whole database for you. not sure if you have to have your phone with you but i believe if you have the proper i.d. (passport?), etc. you can explain to them. i want to say i remember hearing a friend doing this not so long ago...good luck getting everything sorted out!

Have you tried calling your phone to see if anyone picks up? Sounds silly--"Hey, give me back my stuff!"--but I've heard sometimes you can negotiate to retrieve your junk that doesn't have value to anyone else. Or maybe somebody took it by accident, but if that was the case they should've contacted one of your speed dials by now. What a colossal pain, and just when your luck seemed to be on the rebound. Many miles away, there's a shadow on the door...

i had a freind who's vintage cigarette case was stolen off a bar in the castro...? which contained her credit card dl amd some cash. she was able to get the cigarette case back by placing a missed connections ad on cl posing as a gay man...anyway, good luck to you it's such a pain in the ass to have to replace all that stuff not to mention how violated you must feel....

hm, interesting suggestions. thanks!

the perps got busy - they charged a bunch of stuff at gas stations at 4 that morning!

i will try the sprint thing, souris, thanks!

i did try calling, but it went straight to vmail. :(

You may want to begin regularly checking your credit reports if you don't do so frequently now. You should probably do this bi-annually. Whoever stole your purse has much of what they need to pull off identity theft.

what a complete drag.
i hope you are better than i am at letting these things go (of course, yes do all the responsible things that people suggest to protect yourself) but really do i hope let go of feeling violated or anything like that

and just have a lovely trip to austin...my mom was just there and had a great time.

I'm with the other guy here: you may want to make sure your charges do not go beyond trying to scam a few gas stations. It's not enough these days to just cancel the cards, but to ascertain that they didn't use your SSN and name to create a whole new identity for themselves.

I had to file a notary sealed affidavit with my bank to make fraudulent check charges stop, which basically only allowed the bank to freeze the account, in hopes that the creditors would stop asking for money I had not authorized to be spent. It was a pain in the ass because I had just moved 1200 miles away, and was unemployed, which amplified the whole fear of finding myself in debt through no fault of my own.I was extremely lucky, in that my checking account number turned out to be the only thing that somehow ended in someone else's hands. Some people lose their whole identity, and it takes them years to get that straightened out.

oh my god annalisa, i am so sorry that happened to you. that's horrible!

jo, i don't feel violated. just stupid. frustrated at myself for letting it happen. but it's okay. i'm going to get a new phone today!

i LOVE austin. it rained yesterday but today is beautiful and really hot.

I feel so bad about what happened to you! To add an insult the injury, that was when you were at some party instead of more public places such as on train or on the street. Anyhow, your keeping chin up as you suggested in the end of the entry absolutely might help. I hope all of good lucks will be brought about to make up for this!

Re: Austin

Heh you just experienced the end of winter here. We're probably hardly going to see anymore rain until fall. =P

Posted by: Annalisa at March 15, 2004 09:14 PM

this explains why, when i called you on saturday to invite you to my birthday party, i had no luck reaching you. whoops.

you're not still in austin, are you? if you are, call me (i emailed you my cell#) and we should hang out tomorrow night (err, tonight, whatever, tuesday.)

otherwise i'll see you at GDC, hopefully?

silly, fun, kinda interesting cinematic effects; paced like a videogame. The Rock is a decent comic actor as well as credible action hero. cool fighting scenes.

in spite of some good performances, i couldn't get over the condescending tone. it's a classic case of straight guy pretending to be gay, getting the girl and a better job, and safely being able to declare that he's straight - and escaping thr real problems of homophobia. left me feeling a little icky.

lulu gave me this book. it's magical. set in a fantasy industrial age new york city, suffused with mythology.

a great game. scary. i can't play it unless jesse's home. even then it's hard. i make him play it so i can cower behind the blanket and tell him to watch out for the bad guys. yeah, i'm that much of a wimp.
