Umami Tsunami: misremembered

from what i remember regarding dreams, you only remember your dreams if you wake up in the middle of one. you have several dreams throughout the night, but it's only the 'last' dream you had that has a chance of staying in your memory.

i usually try to write down or tell someone my dreams before i forget them. however, be wary of who you tell your nightmares to. a couple of friends still try to freak me out by bringing up a couple of mine.

Oh Jane -- I hate it when I know I've had a peculiar dream but not its particulars!

I remember many dreams although I am sure there are many lost in the recesses of my unconscious. I made it a point to try to remember them a few years back, by jotting them down in the mornings afterwards. I've found that when I make only a mental note to remember them, I still forget them for the most part.

This habit has become very rewarding -- my dreams have given me many new ideas and insights.

I once had a dream that everyone I knew was going through some strange doorway that transformed everyone into armless, legless one-celled somethings and dumped them into a bowl of water. And then, after being suitably frustrated and disturbed, I and some girl I knew both figured out how to transform back, and we were the only ones. (now here's the weird part) And I remember feeling a massive wave of relief of getting my arms and legs back, and as soon as I looked at this girl, I became infatuated with her. And when I woke up, I was still infatuated with her. It didn't go anywhere, but it was still weird to like a girl because of something that happened in a dream.

I very rarely remember my dreams... I hate it when I all I remember is that I had a really cool dream, but everything else escapes me...

My favorite one I remember was one in which I was fighting a dragon in my living room.... I would run behind the couch.. and then to the coffee table.. pick up a magazine and throw it at the dragon... then run back to the couch... I only remember that one b/c my girlfriend at the time woke me up because I would kick my feet, pause, flinch my arms, pause, then kick my feet again ..

i rarely remember my dreams, though i tend to remember nightmares. but they're always ridiculous in waking light. last week i had a terrible nightmare, but all it consisted of was me walking into the kitchen only to find the counters looming above me at ten, twelve feet high, and the enlarged kitchen sink up there clogged and overflowing with some brownish water. that's it. i woke up completely terrified.

I try hard to remember my dreams. Did I tell you about the nightmare I had several years ago, where I was walking around a lake with my friend who had become friends with the ghost girl who lived in the lake? I wandered off while they were talking, and looking into the deep clear lake, I saw the ghost girl's 5-year old drowned body at the bottom looking back up at me. I pointed at her horrified, and woke up with my hand hanging off the bed, still pointing at her. I tell people about that dream a lot.

It's strange because I can remember them for about an hour after I wake up and then if I haven't written it dow, or told someone, I loose it. I guess I wake up very slowly. Also, sometimes during my day, someone will say something or I'll see someone that will trigger a dream memory that I forgot. Anyone else have that happen?

Hahaha it's funny that today's article regards "dream remembering", I had a dream last night about me and Sex And The City's four girls, but hey don't be hasty, we didn't had "sex".....not per se, I divided the night between them four and spent some hours with each one in diverse places (a public park, a wall-less apartment, Miranda's apartment and Samantha's apartment), one of the key phrases in the dream was this I said: "I was hoping to give each four of you a taste of what I can be and a little bit of what each one of you are looking for in men", that can define the dream, it was a tender dream. When I woke up I immediatly went to the PC and started to type, I always do that when I remember a dream and I have quite a collection ^_^' it's nice to have your dreams fixed on any medium (you can use pen and paper too, I've done some if I don't have acces to a PC)

Dreams are very relieving, they can be a good therapy ;)

Funny to note that I almost don't have nightmares, those are very very very rare for me, what could that mean?

When I make a habit of remembering, then it happens, and sometimes I can piece together a long succession of scenes from the night.

Sometimes when I begin to remember my dreams, and write them down, I begin to make a habit.

Occasionally awake, I will remember something quite strange, and uncertain. I try through logic to conclude if this memory is true, or from some half-remembered dream or narrative. And then it slips away again without conclussion, to die, or to linger a bit longer -- who knows?

I have at times woken up transformed, in the dark, believing that I have an extra arm, a single nostril. Once, perhaps after some Kafka-esque nightmare, I thought I had become a cockroach.

But I never seem to remember these dreams.

Often, after waking up from an interrupted dream, brought into an uncomfortable place, I will lay in bed setting things right, working out a method of escape, until I lose track of where the dream ended.

I remember my dreams much more clearly when I've eaten loads of protein during the waking cycle immediately preceding. This is particularly pronounced after a red-meat or sushi dinner, and the tenor of the dreams is different depending on whether the protein came from meat or fish. Things like soy beans are milder on the dreams, but still affect their memorability.

I almost always remember my dreams (because they're usually incredibly messed up). last night I had a dream that I was a foriegn (sp?) exchange student studying something regarding a local monastary and one of the priest tried to have sex with me....and I liked it.
It was weird.
(don't watch the evening news before bed...and especially not when you're drunk).

I went through a 10 year period where I could absolutely not remember any dream I had. Prior to that, I usually had very vivid dreams, and nowadays I fall somewhere in between.

I think the amount of sleep you are able to get per day is a key factor: I am a very nocturnal person, but as a result of having a very busy schedule, I would sometimes go days without sleeping more than 4-5 hours, whereas these days I get between 7-8 hours of sleep.

I dunno, dude. I suppose it depends on what you define as a "nightmare." For, me having to have sex with those four Sex and the City women would classify as a nightmare. Ew. The only one of them I find the least bit attractive is the darker-haired one, Kristin Davis...is that her name? Well, anyway, the one that's not Sarah Jessica, nor the old Lady who played in Mannequin, nor the red-haired one that looks like....well, you find them attractive, so I shall hold my tongue. But that dark-haired one would be more attractive to me if she came across as more intelligent. Hottest woman in the world could walk into the room, nude and willing, and if she giggled like a cheerleader and asked me some dumb-assed question I'd have to ask her to leave before I called the Smart-Police.

I have heard that if you can remember your dreams, you were only in semi-concious state, so making it a "daydream".
